Columbia — In Columbia, it has been a long, brutal season bouncing between 8-man and 11-man football. In the first year of head coach Amar Spencer’s tenure, Columbia enters the playoffs with two wins, including just one conference victory against Mattamuskeet. But Friday night, the Columbia Wildcats look to do something that hasn’t been done since the 2015 season — win a road playoff game.
Setting the Tone
It has been a tough year for the Wildcats. Columbia has battled injuries, played shortened games, and prepared for opponents on short weeks, including Pungo. Still, there have been bright spots. The Wildcats will graduate six seniors — a group that has the chance to do something special tonight and leave Columbia better than they found it.
Unfamiliar Territory
For Amar Spencer, this will be his first playoff game as a head coach.
Friday night’s matchup is an intriguing one, as this group of Wildcats has never experienced a postseason game. A win tonight would boost the team’s morale and provide momentum for the future of both the program and the community.
Sallie B. Howard and Columbia kick off tonight at 7 p.m.
