Manteo brings back something worth celebrating tonight. It brings back a historical piece of success for Manteo High School.
In 1996, Manteo High School Baseball set themselves apart from the rest of the island, a team who came together among all else and used their talent and ability for good to win a State Championship. That State Championship only being the beginning of the story for this program. One of these players going on to leave his mark around Outer Banks Baseball, taking everything in his arsenal, putting it to action and building success over at the First Flight program.Â
Born and raised in a beach town, Meekin’s goal has always been to leave a mark in the community he has invested so much time in.. On the baseball field, an empire was built for the future ,and the youth of Manteo Baseball still thrive from the relics that were left.
The Redskins who were at the Pinnacle of leaving a legacy not only won the State Championship, but ended the season 25-3.Â
Baseball and being on the diamond has a whole different emotion for both First Flight and Manteo.Â
This 1996 team being the key that unlocks the utmost potential out of both athletic programs.Â
The moments have been reminisced. The passion of the game lives on forever.Â
But the testimony of this group who won it all leaves only one want for this island, for a field of dreams team, kids who have come up through OBX baseball, to bring home a recent State Championship banner of their own.Â
And in Dare County, the love of baseball will always bloom.
