Lawrence Baseball has a staunch history of competing in the NCISAA Baseball State Championship Game.
In the small town of Merry Hill, where not much recognition or media attention is given, Lawrence Academy continues to build a powerhouse program. In rural Eastern North Carolina, where not many recruiters drive to see the potential, and in a place where those who start at Lawrence Academy stay to grow their talents on the diamond, the Warriors continue to prove themselves year after year.
Now, here they sit at North Carolina Wesleyan University, where Lawrence Academy has appeared for five consecutive postseasons, with the Warriors on the verge of once again etching their school’s name into championship history.
Lawrence, the No. 3 seed in the NCISAA bracket, battled through the TIC and now defends its title against the prestigious Crossroads Christian School. A victory would mark the ninth baseball state championship in school history.
For Lawrence Academy Head Coach Josh Greenhaw, it would be his second NCISAA State Championship during his tenure — in what has been the toughest season of his coaching career.
The page turned after April 20.
The Warriors’ last loss came against Pungo Christian Academy, a moment that became a turning point for the squad. Since then, Lawrence has played with purpose and intensity, putting together a five-game win streak as the team rallied together to continue the program’s tradition of postseason success.
The Warriors have risen into one of the premier private school baseball programs in North Carolina.
Now, Lawrence has one game left standing between them and another glorious NCISAA State Championship. Win or lose this weekend, the Warriors have endured one of the toughest seasons in recent program history — and the taste of victory could once again be found on the campus of North Carolina Wesleyan University.
