Manteo had a energy , gaining 3 spot in the third inning and two hitters at the plate in Austin and Huntingford contributing 4 RBI’s together to do the damage in a 5-1 local island win over First Flight Friday night.Â
Huntingford at the plate lasered out two hits, brought in two RBI’s and sent a home run over the wall as Manteo put together 10 hits at the dish. Kayla Austin also had a solid day swinging the bat tacking on two hits, two runs, one of those hits being a double.Â
First Flight would show up first in the game offensively , slapping a ball over the outfield wall to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.Â
Manteo would respond in the bottom of the third with a gash of 3 runs, taking the lead and that would be a stab in the bats of the Nighthawks.Â
The Redskins would provide more scoring in the fifth inning, tacking on two runs setting the margin at a four run deficit. Â
Makenna Gray was an absolute ace on the mound for the Manteo Redskins. The sophomore only surrendered one hit on one earned run, but absolutely flexed and fanned out a scorching red hot 16 strikeouts bringing some of her own juice to the pitchers circle.Â
Manteo was perfect flashing the leather gloves , not having a single error in the field the whole game.Â
Manteo continued to grow its confidence now with four straight wins and will face a local island school in Cape Hatteras Secondary on the road next Tuesday night.Â
