Edenton — The 1A Cape Hatteras Hurricanes did not have the firepower to match the outside hitting of the John A. Holmes Lady Aces volleyball program Tuesday night.
John A. Holmes defeated Cape Hatteras 25-8, 25-19 and 25-13 to extend its two-game win streak inside its new gymnasium. The Hurricanes fell to 0-3 in away matches, while the Aces improved to 5-2 and started what they hope will be a long win streak through nonconference play.
Player of the Game honors went to outside and middle hitter Sarah Logan Cobb, who was outstanding throughout the match. Cobb looked like a cannon exploding on the attack, finding nearly every available gap on the Cape Hatteras receiving side and finishing the night with 23 kills.
John A. Holmes has little time to celebrate the victory, as the Lady Aces return home today to face a formidable First Flight High School team.
Cape Hatteras, meanwhile, will look to adjust from the mistakes made Tuesday, build on the positives from a competitive second set and search for its first win of the season against Teach at the Athletic Edge in Washington on Friday night.
