Manteo felt like their approach at the plate against First Flight was rather selfish and that approach made an adjustment last night in Merryhill.
The Redskins arrived into the matchup a week removed from their last game in a 5-1 loss to local island rival First Flight.
Last night Manteo was matched up with the former NCISAA Baseball state champions Lawrence Academy. The matchup marked the first meeting between the two established programs on the diamond.
Lawrence , a group on a 3 game losing skid , committed way too many errors and mistakes in a 12-0 drumming.
The Redskins got going early first in the top of the second with a lot of quality at bats tacking on four runs, finishing with eight hits on the night.
Drew Brown was an absolute swiss knife on the bump, rocking six complete innings while shoving all six innings of shutout baseball , with 13 strikeouts leaving Lawrence head scratching to adjust to his fastball. Trevor Dobson proved to be even more in the closer role , taking the pitcher's mound in the bottom of the 7th and just heating his two seam over the plate providing 3 complete swing and miss strikeouts.
At the plate, it was the Colin Godfrey and Trevor Dobson hitting clinic combining for 4 runs and 4 RBI’s . Smallwood, Brown, Belton, Wheeler, Govan, and Sawyer just simply continue to exemplify the depth Manteo has at the plate.
Even with the .500 beginning stretch ,Manteo has challenged themselves with a tough non conference schedule, tough competition breeds even better competition.
Manteo takes the win and the success and goes into conference play on the road at Bertie Tuesday night.
