Williamston, N.C. – As preparations begin for the upcoming football season, much of the attention in Eastern North Carolina is already turning toward the next senior class. Few players have generated more excitement than Martin County junior standout Jordan Matthewson.
A dynamic two-way athlete at wide receiver and linebacker, Matthewson has become one of the most talked-about prospects in the region. Following Martin County's Northeastern Coastal Conference championship season, his recruitment has continued to gain momentum as Division I programs line up with scholarship offers.
In a town where legendary coach Herman Boone once made his mark, Matthewson is creating a legacy of his own—one tackle, one touchdown, and one big play at a time.
Jordan Matthewson: The Two-Way Machine
In 11 appearances last season, Matthewson recorded:
- 7 receptions
- 117 receiving yards
- 3 receiving touchdowns
- 68 total tackles
The junior standout is expected to return for his final high school season alongside one of the region's top kickers, giving Martin County another strong foundation heading into 2026.
One of Matthewson's most impressive performances came against 5A opponent Currituck County High School. He rushed eight times for 68 yards and a touchdown, averaging 8.5 yards per carry, while also recording 9 tackles on defense.
His versatility and athleticism have not gone unnoticed on the recruiting trail. Matthewson currently holds Division I offers from Duke University Athletics, East Carolina University Athletics, Coastal Carolina University Athletics, and Troy University Athletics.
Official Visit Scheduled with ECU
Matthewson announced on May 29 via his X account that he will take an official visit to East Carolina University from June 18-20.
With another season still ahead of him and recruiting interest continuing to rise, Matthewson enters his senior year as not only one of the top players in Martin County, but arguably one of the premier football prospects in all of Eastern North Carolina.
