Currituck County Finishes Strong in 3-1 Win Over Northeastern

Written by Christian Bateman

Currituck County finished strong Tuesday night, defeating the Northeastern Eagles 3-1 behind a relentless offensive attack and a late goal that sealed the victory.

With the clock winding down in the 79th minute, Currituck’s No. 7 received a pass from No. 20 and delivered a perfectly placed finish into the upper 90, giving the Red Knights the decisive goal and putting the Eagles away.

The Knights (3-5-3, 1-0 NEC) opened the scoring after working the ball through the middle third of the field and creating an opportunity with a well-executed through ball.

Northeastern (2-7-2, 0-1 NEC) responded in the 14th minute. On a corner kick, Miles Everett found himself unmarked in the box. Everett elevated and headed the ball into the net to tie the match at 1-1.

Currituck regained the lead before halftime, taking a 2-1 advantage into the break.

The Eagles continued to battle in the second half, searching for an opportunity to level the match. Currituck’s forwards, however, continued to apply pressure, using their speed and attacking crosses to challenge Northeastern’s back line.

The Red Knights eventually broke through again late in the match. The 79th-minute finish gave Currituck a two-goal cushion and secured the 3-1 victory.

After the game, Currituck’s leadership praised the team’s effort and determination to compete until the final whistle.

“We worked, we didn’t stop until the end. We played until the whistle blew, and I’m proud of them. We usually practice with some light finishes and incorporate that into our training, and you saw we finished with three. So, our game plan went through.”
