The college football recruiting trail is heating up in South Carolina this weekend as programs across the country continue building relationships with the next generation of talent.
Wilson Prep Academy standout Zalik Cannady, a member of the Class of 2028, announced Monday that he will make a visit to the University of South Carolina this Saturday as the Gamecocks take on Towson at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Cannady, one of the most physically imposing young athletes in Eastern North Carolina, brings versatility to the football field. The Wilson Prep standout has experience playing defensive end, defensive tackle, and center, making him a unique prospect to watch as his high school career continues to develop.
The 6-foot-2, 265-pound sophomore has already begun drawing attention from college programs despite still having plenty of time before the recruiting process reaches its peak. Cannady has also been invited to attend an official game visit at NC State, while sources indicate that Jason Taylor and the University of Miami have also shown interest and inquired about the young standout.
Cannady is still only a sophomore in the Wilson Prep program, meaning his recruitment is just beginning. His only other reported college campus visit came this past April when he visited East Carolina University.
The powerful defensive lineman was also in action Thursday night against Northeastern High School, although his night ended early after he exited the contest with an apparent rotator cuff injury.
As Cannady continues to develop physically and gain experience at the high school level, his name is one that college football fans and recruiting followers throughout Eastern North Carolina should keep an eye on.
The 2028 prospect is just getting started.
